More information
The International Cultural Centre (ICC) is located in Krakow's historic old city. Its grand opening is expected in the fall of 2008.
The ICC fits perfectly into the Counterparts program, as its goals are to maintain Europe's cultural heritage, encourage intercultural cooperation and dialogue, support the arts and ensure that historical buildings are protected. To this end, the Centre organizes conferences, research projects and exhibitions, and issues publications. In addition, the institute regularly invites guest speakers from other countries to Krakow and is involved in a variety of European initiatives.
The very building that the ICC is located in has a rich cultural history. In 1842 the "Ravens House" was converted from two medieval houses located on Krakow's main market square. It already houses seminar, exhibition and conference rooms in addition to a library containing a wealth of publications, primarily about culture.

Artur Pielech, Managing Partner, Roland Berger Strategy Consultants, Warsaw
The Counterparts Initiative
Speaking at the ceremony, Warsaw-office Managing Partner, Artur Pielech addressed the importance of the ICC as a "magical place in the historic city." In choosing an initiative to complement other Counterparts projects, the consultants had evaluated a number of ideas before concluding that the ICC was a perfect fit. Thanking Professor Purchla, the Director of the ICC, for the good collaboration, Pielech presented him with a framed portrait of the patron saint of librarians, St. Laurentius.
Pielech also referenced the other projects, which the Counterparts program had underwritten in the area.In June 2006, Roland Berger Strategy Consultants funded the new production of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's opera "The Magic Flute" as part of the Counterparts program. This performance was staged at the Polish National Opera in Warsaw by Achim Freyer, a student of Bertolt Brecht's.
In 2005, Roland Berger's support made a joint exhibit of German and Croatian artists at the Museum of Contemporary Art Zagreb possible. Together with Goethe-Institut, the consultancy has been instrumental in expanding and modernizing the Dubrovnik city libraries over the past two years, for which it facilitated the purchase of reference books and management literature and co-sponsored the creation of a new reading room and music library.
