Munich, October 18, 2005

  • 300 logistics managers in industry and trade surveyed
  • Ranking considerably higher than competitors
  • Awards ceremony at the German Logistics Congress on October 18, 2005, in Berlin

Roland Berger Strategy Consultants has the best reputation among all logistics consultancies in Germany. This was determined by the Bielefeld market research institute Emnid, which surveyed 300 logistics managers in industry and trade. The survey was conducted on behalf of the professional magazine "Logistik inside". Roland Berger came out well ahead of its competitors. The "LOGISTIK inside Image Award 2005", will be awarded today, October 18, 2005, at the German Logistics Congress in Berlin.

Roland Berger Strategy Consultants has been active in logistics consulting since 1985. Roland Berger concentrates on network optimization, warehousing and distribution concepts as well as cross-divisional logistics synergies. Furthermore, the consultants have vast experience in optimizing logistics processes, product portfolio/services concepts, inventory optimization as well as supply chain management. This experience is relevant for both logistics services providers as well as their customers in trade and industry.

New trends are developing for logistics services providers: "In the future, outsourcing will become more important for logistics services providers", explained Axel Schmidt, Partner and Head of the Operations Strategy Competence Center at Roland Berger Strategy Consultants. This means they can tap new business fields and grow long-term. In many cases, the cooperation between the manufacture and the logistics services provider will intensify. In such cases the services provider offers extra services that go beyond transport and storage, such as picking and packing (contract services).

"Contract logistics is a market that has been growing annually by over 10 percent over the last 10 years", explained Schmidt. With still untapped market potential and high returns, the contract logistics market is viewed as one of the most significant markets for logistics services providers. Especially medium-sized shipping companies should increasingly concentrate on contract logistics. By doing so, they can move away from offering purely transport services, which are characterized by considerable fluctuations in price and capacity utilization.
