Business model changes in dynamic industries
Yves Meinhardt
2002
The business model concept has increasingly become the object of scientific debate as of late. From a strategic management perspective, next to the question of what business models actually are, it is also interesting to know how they can be changed in order to ensure long-term business success.
In his thesis "Business model changes in dynamic industries. Case studies from the biotech and pharmaceuticals sectors as well as business-to-consumer portals" Yves Meinhardt investigates these aspects based on six case studies from the biotech and pharmaceuticals sectors as well as business-to-consumer portal enterprises. First, he develops a frame of reference to systemize business models. Then he derives preliminary hypotheses from the empirical case studies, which he compares with existing theories. As a result, the author describes the trajectories of business models and develops a concept explaining these changes.
