Young Mobility Survey 2011
2011
Global megatrends such as geopolitical changes, demographic transition, sustainability, mobility development and technological transformation will have a fundamental impact on the automotive industry between now and 2025. Disagreement exists as to how these trends are already affecting the automotive market – To shed more light on this topic, Roland Berger Strategy Consultants and TNS Infratest carried out a representative survey among 16 to 22 year olds and found out the following trends:
- The car is losing ground as a status symbol – Almost half of those surveyed can imagine life without a car. The car's low value as a status symbol is also apparent compared to other consumer goods
- The younger generation is rather skeptical about alternative mobility concepts – However, this is not due to a lack of information. In the future, this generation will become increasingly interested in alternative mobility concepts
- There is no clear trend towards online and connectivity interfaces yet. Value for the money, safety and environmental friendliness currently dominate the wish list
- The younger generation feels that automotive OEMs are interested in them, but are still not being properly addressed
- Established standards such as in Germany are setting the standards for future developments in Asia
- Based on the initial findings of some of the 2025 trends, we can already identify three key implications for the automotive industry today
