Building Bridges
To enhance the mutual understanding between Europe and China through culture, the international strategy consulting firm, Roland Berger, has launched a new initiative. 'Building Bridges' is intended to foster dialogue around issues of common interest through music and art. The first event – the finissage of two exhibits of German art at the National Art Museum of China (NAMOC) in Beijing took place on July 2nd.
Over sixty executives from European and Chinese firms, including the CEO of Thyssen Krupp China, the Director of Deutsche Bank China, the Chairman of Datian Group, the President of Industrial Bank and the Representative of the Deutsche Bundesbank to China alongside international correspondents, local media representatives and government officials, were treated to a unique fusion of art and music at the National Art Museum of China on July 2nd. In cooperation with the German Embassy in China, Roland Berger Strategy Consultants hosted the Finissage of two key exhibits: "Living Landscapes. A Journey Through German Art" and "Gerhard Richter. Images 1963-2007".
H.E. Michael Schaefer, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in China and Charles-Edouard Bouée, Roland Berger Strategy Consultants Managing Partner for Greater China co-hosted the event. Prof. Dr. Martin Roth, General Director of the State Art Collections, Dresden and Fan Di’an, Director of the National Art Museum of China introduced the exhibits and the museum.

Guests were divided in two groups and led through the exhibits by Dr. Roth and Fan Di'an, where – at various intersections – they were treated to performances of chamber music by performers from the Shanghai Conservatory and the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich, who played both traditional Chinese pieces and works by Bach and Beethoven. The intersection of the groups between the two exhibits and the varied program allowed for the element of chance to govern each visitor's experience.
A concert featuring the String Quintet in C major by Franz Schubert, alongside a folk song from Yunnan province and a piece played on the traditional Chinese pipa rounded out the evening.
The concerts serves is the first of a two-part event series to support cross-cultural understanding. As part of the annual young.euro.classic international music festival, Roland Berger Strategy Consultants and the People's Republic of China will host a concert in Berlin on August 8th to highlight the talents of young musicians from Europe and China and to celebrate the spirit of understanding embodied by the Olympic Games.
