New year - new partners
Congratulations!
Roland Berger Strategy Consultants has appointed nine new international Partners. The new Partners work at various offices, from Bucharest to Paris, and six are based in Germany. In addition, four Partners have been promoted to the next Partner level. With these appointments at the International Partners Meeting in Brussels, the strategy consultancy is expanding its Partner base and strengthening its worldwide presence.

Alfredo Arpaia
(39) joined Roland Berger in 2007, working from the Milan office in the InfoCom Competence Center. He is an expert in telecommunications, media and multi-utility as well as in cross-industry operations. He gained a master's degree in Industrial Engineering in Italy and went on to complete his MBA at the University of Michigan and Rotterdam School of Management.

Patrick Biecheler (36) is based in Paris and has been working for the Pharma & Healthcare Competence Center since 2006. He is an expert in the life sciences industry, strategic planning and marketing & sales excellence. He studied Finance & Marketing at ESSEC in Paris. Over the past ten years he has been involved in Strategy and Marketing functions at Roland Berger Strategy Consultants and various pharmaceutical companies.

Wolfgang Hach (37) has been working for the Financial Services Competence Center in Munich since 1998, mainly on behalf of banks and insurance companies. He is an expert for strategic realignment, business sector strategies, complex post-merger integration and turnaround programs. Hach studied Business Administration at ESB Reutlingen and Middlesex University after training as a banker.

Dr. Frank Heideloff (41) has been supporting the Financial Services Competence Center from the Hamburg Office since October 2009. He worked until March 2005 for a leading American strategy consultancy in Germany, Europe and Asia. In January 2007, he was made Global Head of Group Development/Control at HSH Nordbank AG. He is an expert in strategy, restructuring, corporate finance, risk management and IT for commercial and regional state banks. Heideloff holds a a business degree from St. Gallen and CEMS Master's degree. He received his doctorate in 1998 at TU Chemnitz.

Dr. Guido Hertel (42) is an expert in the electronics sector (automation, microelectronics, software), engineered products and energy (including renewables and services) and a functional specialist in strategy, M&A, performance improvement and international footprint. He worked from 1998 to 2008 for several international business consultancies. Hertel studied Physics at Munich's Ludwig Maximilian University and Technical University of Munich (TUM), receiving his doctorate at TUM.

Dr. Karsten Lafrenz (36) is an expert in restructuring, refinancing and organization in the automotive, aviation, high-tech and service sectors. He has been working in the Corporate Performance Competence Center in Düsseldorf since 2000. After graduating with a Master of Science in Finance from Strathclyde University (Glasgow) and completing a business degree at University of Münster in Westphalia, he was awarded his doctorate in 2003 from the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt/Oder.

Bernard Malek (43) is an expert in innovative growth strategies, organization and process design. His consulting assignments have focused on companies from the consumer goods, retail and luxury goods industries. He has been working at the Consumer Goods & Retail Competence Center in Paris since 2006 and has held a number of high-level positions with, for instance, a leading international strategy consultancy and at Coca-Cola Entreprise in France. After studying at the HEC (Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales), he went on to the University of Paris-Dauphine, receiving a master's degree with honors in finance.

Patrick Müller-Sarmiento (36) has been working for the Consumer Goods & Retail Competence Center in Hamburg since January 2002. His work focuses on strategic realignment, brand positioning, restructuring and turnaround management for major consumer goods businesses and retailers from all sectors. After graduating from the European Business School with an MBA, he began his career with an international investment bank, later changing to a large Coffee Group.

Michael Valentine-Urbschat (46) joined Roland Berger's Automotive Competence Center in Munich in 2007, where he runs the E-Mobility Cluster, focusing on strategy projects for OEMs, suppliers, infrastructure providers and government agencies preparing for the technology shift. He previously held various management positions in development at BMW and was founder and CEO of a Venture Capital Boutique from 2001 to 2006. Valentine-Urbschat studied Aerospace Engineering at the Technical University of Munich and received an MBA from INSEAD, Fontainebleau.

Partners promoted to the next Partner level:

Max Falckenberg (40) has worked for Roland Berger since May 2000 as a Partner in the Corporate Performance Competence Center, based in Düsseldorf. In this role he focuses on the functional issues of restructuring and corporate finance and has special industry expertise in automotive supplies, shipping, retail, wholesale, machinery and construction. He studied Business Administration at the universities of Passau, Berlin (Humboldt) and Berkeley, California. In the US he also trained to become a Certified Public Accountant in San Diego. He began his professional career with a leading international auditing company in Berlin and London.

Alexander Mogg (42) has worked at Roland Berger's InfoCom Competence Center in Munich since 2006. The InfoCom Competence Center supports clients in telecommunications, media, high tech, IT and information management. He is an expert in strategy development, especially for broadband networks and media. After studying Aerospace Engineering at the Technical University of Munich, he completed his MBA in 1996 at the Yale School of Management. Mogg then started his career working at a major international strategy consultancy for ten years.

Codrut Pascu (34) is Managing Partner of Roland Berger's Bucharest office. Pascu started his career in investment banking before joining Roland Berger's Bucharest office in 1998. He became a Partner in 2007 working for the Bucharest and London offices and managing numerous projects in industries such as telecom, energy and utilities, financial services and pharmaceuticals. His functional expertise covers, among others, efficiency improvement, cost reduction, restructuring, corporate and business strategy as well as corporate finance and mergers & acquisitions. He studied Economics and Business Administration in Bucharest and holds an MBA from INSEAD in Fontainebleau.

Olaf Toepfer (40) is Head of the Financial Services Competence Center at Roland Berger Switzerland. His industry experience includes retail and private banking, asset management and (re)insurance. He has experience in various strategy consulting projects (corporate and business strategy, organizational structures) and is an expert in profitable growth, operational efficiency and strategy implementation. Toepfer joined Roland Berger in 2004 after eight years at an international consulting firm. He holds a degree in Economics and Social Sciences from the University of Fribourg in Switzerland.
