International cooperation is one of the most important cornerstones of our success. Our Summer Associates at the leading MBA schools experienced at first hand just how well it can work.
"I never even get down to strategy because I'm always having to correct other people's mistakes," says one. "You only go on about secondary details. You lack a wider understanding of the problem," says the other. The argument soon escalates into a row, with the two of them shouting at each other. This simulated dispute is part of a training session called "Avoiding and Handling Conflicts". Some 25 participants from China, Japan, the US and Europe are learning to intervene before tempers flare to ensure that discussions are productive.
At the international "MBA Summer Event", which brought together the Summer Associates from Roland Berger Strategy Consultants, there was no need for real conflict management. Quite the reverse: the MBA candidates attending schools like LBS, IESE, Wharton or Kellog could hardly get enough of the opportunity to talk with others about their MBA programs and their work within Roland Berger's international network. Participants were particularly keen to talk with the three members of our company's MBA Circle attending the event. They enjoy a special privilege: after successfully working as consultants for the company, our MBA Circle members have their MBA studies funded by Roland Berger Strategy Consultants.

Look what else we've got...
"Events like this help us prepare our Summer Associates for working in our company and provide them with the know-how and contacts they will need. Another aspect is that we will obviously be pleased if our participants have positive things to tell the others when they return to their business schools after the Summer Internship," explains Melanie Buehler from Roland Berger's MBA Relations Team.
The MBA students had to put their teamwork skills to the test once again at the MBA Team Challenge. One of their tasks was to jointly reach a destination with their eyes blind-folded. This demands very close coordination and cooperation. The group that scored the best overall in the tests was a Russian-German-Chinese-Belgian team. But all the participants found the day they spent together highly rewarding. Zhang Yong, who is doing his MBA at Duke University and currently working in our Shanghai office, summed up the mood, "It is a great event, through which I learned a lot about Roland Berger’s culture and uniqueness, and I made so many friends."
