Credit – Where it's Due?
2009
Credit – Where it’s Due? is based on interviews with finance managers at 137 of the UK’s top 1000 companies by turnover.
Respondents were drawn from manufacturing, retail and consumer goods, financial services (excluding banks) and property and construction sectors. All participating companies have a minimum turnover of £250 million, with 60% of firms having a turnover in excess of £750 million. The survey was conducted in December 2008.
Businesses polled warned that the withdrawal of unused credit lines could damage their operations, with more than half saying it could even force them to cut staff.
The responsible partner at Roland Berger Strategy Consultants, Klaus Kremers said: “This is a really serious problem. If companies don’t have the necessary headroom they will be forced into a very difficult position. Some of the banks’ actions here are simply unfair.”
