Greentech industries: further growth driver for CEE?

2012

"Green technology" is blooming: in the CEE, it is expected to grow 8.5% p.a. by 2020. This figure is way above European and even global GDP forecasts. One of the main demand drivers is that global commodity markets are becoming increasingly volatile worldwide, so the world is unsure where its energy will be coming from.

There are many areas, such as energy efficiency and recycling, where Central and Eastern Europe shows potential similar to Africa and Asia. This means growth opportunities for green tech in Central and Eastern Europe.

"This study extracts and combines six areas which will be major global economic factors up to 2020: energy efficiency, sustainable water management, sustainable mobility, smart energy, efficient use of resources and materials and recycling. Energy efficiency, water management and smart energy will account for most of this by 2020, growing at 8.5% p.a.," says Alexander Kainer, study author and Principal at Roland Berger's Vienna office. "This is potential we need to use; but that calls for a clear strategic vision in Europe and especially the necessary funding."
