President Trump: another Black Swan?

Unlike many other Europeans I didn't wake up dumbfounded by the news of Donald Trump being elected the 45th president of the United States. In a world full of uncertainty, polls are no longer the trusted barometers they once were – developments remain fluid right up the finish line, and also people are afraid. We, the Europeans, perhaps also the entire world, learnt this the hard way with the Brexit referendum. In my view, Donald Trump's campaign and victory follow a similar pattern, with exactly the same effects. Two months ago, I posted a blog on Brexit , analyzing the underlying causes and reasons behind this unthinkable decision – almost as unthinkable as a Donald Trump presidency seemed on the eve of the election.
