Innovation | Product | Engineering

The globalization of the last decade has drastically increased pressure on companies' products, service offers, and design and production processes. Businesses today are facing fierce competition from emerging countries, stricter norms and regulations, changes in consumers' habits and needs, growing diversity of needs, and price pressure, to name just a few issues.

Roland Berger helps its clients to develop solutions to overcome these challenges, both with short term and long term outlook, and has developed a comprehensive set of levers from a cross-functional experience across the key industries facing numerous similar challenges.

Insights on IPE

Check back here for weekly updates on different aspects of IPE

Innovative Product Engineering
Why is it important for a company to innovate in products, technologies and services? And how can those products be sold on a global scale and meet local needs at the same time? We developed the IPE concept to help you answer this and other related questions. Watch the short video above to find out how IPE works.

Reindustrialization
Innovation and competitiveness are key to jump starting the economy. A reindustrialization strategy is desperately needed in several European business locations to generate economic growth. Per I. Nilsson, Partner and expert in our IPE team, advocates several levers for reversing industrial decline for European countries in the midst of deindustrialization: lowering payroll taxes and increasing flexible working arrangements are just a few. By implementing the right measures, competitiveness can be increased, says our French Partner, Max Blanchet.

Interesting figures on innovation
We have taken a closer look at innovation and want to share interesting facts and figures about it with you. A compendium of our findings, presented daily on our social media channels, is published below.

Reducing product complexity
What is the complexity/diversity dilemma and why is mastering complexity so difficult for companies? Please watch the video with Max Blanchet, our Partner and IPE productivity expert from France, for answers to these questions or simply to learn more about the IPE approach to reducing product complexity.

Engineering efficiency - the core goal for companies
Limited transparency, out-of-date processes and structures, the blend of core and non-core areas: All of these factors make it difficult for companies to be efficient in engineering. Based on his own project experience with engineering efficiency, our Partner and IPE engineering expert in Germany, Jochen Gleisberg, has some advice on how companies can master this challenge. Learn more in the brief interview.

Successful innovation
Why is it so difficult to make great innovations marketable? And what will possibly be the most disruptive innovation of the future? Watch a short interview with Per Ingemar Nilsson, our innovation expert, on how to make an innovation successful.

Product Value Management
Value management is a well-known concept designed to help companies focus on value creation. Roland Berger Strategy Consultants has successfully transferred this idea to products. Oliver Knapp, our Partner and IPE product value management (PVM) expert in Germany, provides insights into the application of this philosophy, which shifts the emphasis from function and cost to product and value.

Globalization in automotive engineering
What trends will shape the automotive engineering industry over the next decade? What impact will the BRIC markets (Brazil, Russia, India, China) have? And will future technologies emerge as disruptive or incremental innovations? Wolfgang Bernhart, IPE partner and engineering expert, provides answers to these questions in a brief interview.
