Prof. Dr. Burkhard Schwenker has been Chairman of the Advisory Council for Roland Berger since 2015, having previously served as Chairman of the Supervisory Board and CEO of the consultancy. He is an expert in strategy, organization and corporate transformation. He began his career at PWA Papierwerke Waldhof-Aschaffenburg AG and joined Roland Berger in 1989. He became a Partner in 1992 and was first appointed to the company's Global Executive Committee (GEC) in 1998.
Burkhard studied Mathematics and Business Administration at the University of Bielefeld, where he received his doctorate. He is a recognized author and regularly writes books and articles on pressing topics in strategy, management and economic & industrial policy. He held a seat on the Board of the German Academic Association for Business Research (VHB) until 2014 and is currently Deputy Chairman of the VHB-Board of Friends eV, a booster club of the German Academic Association for Business Research.
Burkhard teaches strategic management at the Leipzig Graduate School of Management (HHL) where he is also Academic Co-Director of HHL's Center for Scenario Planning. He holds academic positions at numerous other institutions and is a visiting fellow at the Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford.
Burkhard is a member of the Senate or Board of Trustees for the following organizations: the ZEIT-Stiftung foundation; Germany's National Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech); the Wittenberg Center for Global Ethics eV; the Wertekommission - Initiative Werte Bewusste Führung (Values Commission for the Initiative on Values-Based Management); the Stiftung Initiative Werte Stipendium (Values-Based Stipend Initiative); and the Lebendige Stadt (Vibrant City) Foundation. He is also involved in Wissensfabrik eV (Knowledge Factory), where he serves as Chairman of the Jury for the Weconomy startup award.
