Burkhard Schwenker
Prof. Dr. Burkhard Schwenker (born in Germany in 1958) is Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Roland Berger Strategy Consultants. He took over this function from the company's founder Prof. Dr. h.c. Roland Berger on August 1, 2010. Prior to that, he had been a member of Roland Berger Strategy Consultants' global Executive Committee since November 1998, and was elected CEO in 2003.
In addition, Schwenker was appointed Chairman of the Roland Berger Foundation's Board of Trustees as of September 1, 2010. This Foundation confers the Roland Berger Human Dignity Award every year and provides scholarships to young students from underprivileged backgrounds.
After studying business administration (Dipl. Kfm.) and mathematics, he started his career at PWA Papierwerke Waldhof-Aschaffenburg AG and completed his Ph.D. He joined Roland Berger Strategy Consultants in 1989, where he built up the Hamburg office and was elected Partner in 1992. He is an expert in strategy, organization and corporate transformation.
Burkhard Schwenker regularly lectures at and sits on the boards of several business schools and universities, and was appointed professor of strategic management at the Leipzig Graduate School of Management. In addition, he is a member of the Executive Board of the Foundation for the Advancement of European Business School and the Board of Trustees at the Technical University Bergakademie Freiberg, as well as the Academic Society for Marketing and Business Leadership. Schwenker is also Visiting Fellow at the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford.
In addition to his function as Chairman of the Roland Berger Foundation, he takes an active role in several other sociopolitical institutions, for example as Deputy Chairman of Atlantik Brücke e.V., a Board Member of the Hamburg Symphony, on the Boards of Trustees of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), the Values Commission (Wertekommission e.V.) and the Stifterverband innovation agency for the German science system. He also sits on the Board of the Roland Berger Foundation for European Corporate Leadership.
Burkhard Schwenker is married, has three children and lives in Hamburg.
