
Axel Fischer
Dr. Axel Fischer is a medical doctor and economist and has been a Partner at Roland Berger's Munich office since 2025. With more than 25 years of experience in strategic consulting and the management of healthcare organizations, including serving as CEO of Germany's second-largest public hospital group, he is an expert in developing innovative medical strategies, realigning organizations, and optimizing care structures. His work combines strategic expertise with a deep understanding of the operational and medical requirements of the healthcare sector.
Axel has led numerous complex projects in the healthcare sector, including efficiency improvement programs, the development of modern care concepts, as well as the transformation and advancement of organizations. In his role as Chief Restructuring Officer (CRO), he has successfully led and supported numerous restructuring initiatives. His focus lies on strategy development, improving economic efficiency, and guiding organizations through change processes. He combines strategic thinking with operational excellence and profound clinical expertise.
He advises a wide range of clients, including hospitals, healthcare providers, and public institutions. Axel has extensive international experience, particularly in Europe.
Axel studied medicine at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, where he also earned his doctorate. Additionally, he completed an Executive MBA program at the University of St. Gallen (HSG). During his medical training, he gained international experience in the United States.
