Jointly managing migration

September 28, 2016

The successful integration of refugees presents new opportunities for companies and industries in Germany. A new study, which Roland Berger presented to German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin, takes a closer look at the current refugee situation. The study surveyed 132 companies, of which 76 are members of the "Wir zusammen" initiative. Almost 90 percent of those member organizations had employed refugees - reporting overwhelmingly positive experiences.

"With great opportunities on offer for the German economy, we can ensure the integration of refugees benefits everyone."

Ralph Dommermuth

The study surveyed 132 companies, of which 76 are members of the "Wir zusammen" initiative. Almost 90 percent of those member organizations had employed refugees - reporting overwhelmingly positive experiences.

The study suggests a number of recommendations to ensure the successful economic integration of refugees in Germany, including:

  1. Quicker certainty regarding resident status.
  2. Improving language competence for refugees.
  3. Better professional qualifications for refugees.
  4. Better delivery of information to refugees.
  5. Improving competence assessments and recognition of qualifications.
  6. Removing hurdles in the hiring process.
  7. Promoting exchange between companies.
