Performance of "The Seagull"
Roland Berger Strategy Consultants and the Goethe-Institut are the joint sponsors of the "Festival for contemporary German choreography" in Moscow.
Launched on March 27, the festival will run through April 24, with events at the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Music Theater and the Schkola Dramaticheskogo Iskusstwa Theater.
Over 250 guests attended a special performance of a ballet based on Chekov's "The Seagull", staged by John Neumeier on April 7. Set to music by Shostakovich, Tchaikovsky and Scriabin, the famed choreographer's ballet "The Seagull" was one of the highlights of the month-long festival. Neumeier is the artistic director of the Hamburg Ballet not only choreographed the ballet, but also designed the set, costumes and lighting. Performances in Germany were sold out. Roland Berger Strategy Consultants and the Goethe-Institut hosted a select group of representatives from politics, business and culture at the performance and following reception, both taking place at the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Music Theatre.
Burkhard Schwenker, CEO of Roland Berger Strategy Consultants, explained his company's interest in supporting the festival: "Dance and music, culture and education broaden horizons, cross borders and build bridges between cultures." The festival takes place under the patronage of Dr. Walter Jürgen Schmid, Germany's Ambassador to the Russian Federation.

Together with the Goethe-Institut, Roland Berger Strategy Consultants "Counterparts" initiative, which promotes art and cultural projects in Central and Eastern Europe since 2005. "Counterparts" stands for the dialog between cultures and for the search for similarities in others. Klaus-Dieter Lehmann, President of the Goethe-Institut, explains the collaborative efforts' aim: "We are reaching out to those active culture and education as well as those interested in these issues across countries of Central and Eastern Europe. We are thus working toward strengthening the connection between countries." In 2005 and 2006, Roland Berger Strategy Consultants financed cultural events in Croatia and Poland in addition to its existing involvement in libraries in Dubrovnik and Krakow. In fall of 2008, the strategy consultancy will be opening a third "Roland Berger Library" in St. Petersburg.
In addition to the its involvement in the month of dance-related activities in Moscow, Roland Berger offered local and international journalists attending from Germany, Portugal and Switzerland insights into the Russian marketplace. At the press conference "Doing Business in Russia," on April 7 Dr. Uwe Kumm, Managing Partner of Roland Berger Russia addressed the ever-present concerns over energy supplies, the recent presidential election and Russia's role at the NATO Summit.
