Family-friendly policies
Family-conscious
In a guest article for the CSR supplement in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Friederike Woermann-Seiger, Project Manager at Roland Berger Strategy Consultants, elaborates on why family-friendliness benefits both companies and families.

According to the article, the term "corporate responsibility" is still often associated with companies' voluntary activities for society. In this view, corporate citizenship was only one aspect. However, as Woermann-Seiger explains, corporate responsibility also means the respectful treatment of one's own employees and the fostering of this behavior. Companies have credibility in their socially responsible activities only if they treat their employees responsibly. Therefore, family-friendliness has taken on particular importance, and flexible work times and part-time models are increasingly becoming a normal part of the business day.

The survey entitled "Success factor family", conducted by Roland Berger for Germany's Ministry of Family Affairs, showed how important family-friendliness is when choosing an employer. For 92% of all employees with children, it is at least as important as salary. The same holds true for 65% of employees without children. According to their own estimates, 89% of family-friendly companies report competitive advantages when it comes to qualified workers. These companies also save, for example due to shorter parental leave times or returning parents needing less time to get back in the swing of things. The ideal situation would be a company that no longer offers just one program for family-friendliness, but rather fosters a "family-conscious" corporate culture.
