Art and culture in Croatia

Munich, October 14, 2005

  • Support for the Dubrovnik Libraries: Expansion of the cultural-historical collection as well as the purchase of management and business literature ("Roland Berger Library")
  • Art exhibition in Zagreb featuring contemporary artists from Germany and Croatia: Opening in November 2005
  • Cooperation with the Goethe Institute in Zagreb

"Counterparts" is the motto under which Roland Berger Strategy Consultants supports culture and education in Croatia.

"Counterparts" stands for the exchange and discourse between cultures, and the search for similarities with each other. Roland Berger Strategy Consultants is supporting the Dubrovnik Libraries by helping them expand their collection of cultural, historical and scientific books as well as building up a music library. In addition, the strategy consultancy is financially supporting an art exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb with Croatian and German artists. Roland Berger is carrying out both projects together with the Goethe Institute in Zagreb.

Roland Berger Strategy Consultants and the Goethe Institute support the Dubrovnik Libraries. At the heart of the Mediterranean city's cultural life, the public libraries are currently expanding their collection of books dealing with Dalmatian history and culture: "Cultural sponsoring has a long tradition at Roland Berger," said Dr. Burkhard Schwenker, Chairman of the Executive Committee at Roland Berger Strategy Consultants. "With our initiative, we invest in education and at the same time help foster the cultural self-image of the people in the region." The strategy consultancy further supports the libraries in creating a music library, purchasing key publications on business and management topics and modernizing the reading room. Pro bono Roland Berger consultants analyze how the library can encourage more readers and attract new sponsors. The opening will take place on October 15 in Dubrovnik, when the "Month of the Book" starts in Croatia.

In addition, Roland Berger Strategy Consultants is supporting an art exhibition at The Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb, one of the leading contemporary art institutions in the region.
Nada Beroš, Senior Curator of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb, developed the exhibition concept on "Criss-Cross – Five Positions in Croatian and German Contemporary Art" and selected 11 artists from Croatia and Germany: Lovro Artuković, Plamen Dejanoff, Nina Fischer & Maroan el Sani, Kristian Kožul, Kristina Leko, Marion Porten, Antje Schiffers, Julia Schmidt, Sonja Vuk, Slaven Tolj, all of whom are internationally renowned artists with distinguished careers. Nada Beroš compares the artists' works and reveals elements of tension and commonality. The opening takes place on November 24, 2005 in Croatia's capital city.

The president of the Goethe Institute, Professor Dr. Jutta Limbach, said: "For the Goethe Institute, the cooperation with Roland Berger is a promising experiment. With this joint initiative, we reach not only the cultural and intellectual elite in Croatia but also the general public and create a lasting connection with Germany and Europe."
