Roland Berger sponsors the "Young Global Leaders"

Munich September 6, 2007

  • Annual meeting in Dalian in context of "Initiative 2030"
  • Roland Berger meta-study "Trend Compendium 2030" as platform for discussion

The first World Economic Forum on growth will take place from September 6 to 8, 2007, in the Chinese city of Dalian. More than 1,700 participants from global growth companies, representing over 90 countries, are expected to attend. At the same time, the Young Global Leaders (YGL) will be holding their annual meeting to discuss future global challenges. As a strategic partner of the World Economic Forum and lead partner of the YGL, Roland Berger Strategy Consultants is sponsoring both events.

Dr. Manfred Reichl, former Senior Partner at Roland Berger and currently Chief Mentor for Young Global Leaders, explains: "Young Global Leaders was created in 2004 by the World Economic Forum to give up-and-coming young leaders a proper platform." As part of "Initiative 2030", the members are working on a vision for a better future. Their goal is to develop innovative strategies for the future.

"In Dalian, we want to define today's key challenges so we can develop feasible solutions for the future," says Reichl, who will be moderating the discussion in China. The Young Global Leaders will be grouped into teams, which will then discuss scenarios for health, environment, education, global governance and security as well as development and poverty. "The sooner developments are recognized, the easier it is to find the right strategies in time and take the appropriate action."

Meta-study: "Trend Compendium 2030"

In preparation for the meeting, Roland Berger identified several global meta-trends with implications for the future. The strategy consultancy compiled and edited the results of numerous studies and forecasts, and then grouped them by topic. This process produced the "Trend Compendium 2030", a meta-study provided to the YGL in advance of the conference. According to Reichl, "Unlike traditional studies, we have published our results on an interactive DVD. This presentation format should do justice to the material."

Along with general trends such as population growth or economic development, the study focused on the areas of health, environment, education, development and poverty, global governance and security as well as values and society.
