Our commitment to sustainable, inclusive growth

At Roland Berger, we are committed to sustainable and inclusive growth. We aim to build on our long-established environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards to better our company and those we work with. For us, ESG reporting is not a compliance exercise. It is a way to demonstrate transparency, accountability, and the same high expectations that we bring to our professional work.

Our Sustainability Statement outlines what this commitment means in practice, both within our own organization and in our work with clients and partners. Reflecting selected principles of the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS), we detail how we integrate ESG principles into our operations, culture, and consulting approach.

The Statement highlights the concrete steps we are taking to drive meaningful change from within, as well as the actions we are pursuing to help build a net-zero future. Our goal is to lead by example, promoting responsible business practices and empowering others to do the same.

Key highlights from our Sustainability Statement

While we strive for optimal performance across the ESRS, it is our achievements in the ‘Climate change’ and ‘Own workforce’ topics that we are most proud.

Climate change – Emissions reduction

The Science-based Targets Initiative (SBTi) is a globally recognized standard for setting and validating corporate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions targets. We are committed to achieving our SBTi-validated GHG targets and transparently report our progress in them annually.

Between 2019 and 2025 we halved our Scope 1 & 2 emissions (direct emissions & indirect emissions from purchased energy) and are now well on our way to meeting our 2028 SBTi target of cutting both by 60%. In addition, we have already met our SBTi target of using 100% renewable electricity in our 50 offices across the globe – three years ahead of schedule.

We aim to achieve net-zero emissions by 2040, through initiatives that include selecting low-carbon heating solutions for our buildings, fleet electrification and decarbonization of business flights by using sustainable aviation fuels. All our emissions goals are set down in our Sustainability Policy.

But our biggest impact on the climate lies further downstream, in the work we do with our clients. In our role as a consulting firm, we demonstrate the business case for sustainability, from climate change mitigation to adaptation and the energy transition. We also have an impact through our role as contributors to and shapers of the public discourse by sharing our knowledge. While less quantifiable, this work has a tangible impact on the wider world that reaches far beyond our own climate footprint.

Own workforce

Our 3,359 employees (2025 figure) are our key asset. To ensure that their interests and views are heard, and that we can improve as an organization, we undertake a monthly anonymized engagement survey covering all aspects of life at Roland Berger. One result of this has been our New Ways of Working (NWoW) initiative. It promotes sustainable work practices by encouraging a healthy work-life balance, fostering cultural change and offering supporting initiatives such as stress management training. For example, 100% of employees are entitled to family-related leave.

We are also fostering an inclusive and responsible workplace, with a focus on equal opportunities for all employees. Our gender pay gap is just 1.2%, for example, while we aim to have a 40% female workforce by 2028. To support and monitor these efforts, 92% of employees received performance reviews in the last reporting period.

Away from measurable success, we work hard to continuously improve the skill base of our employees. We consistently adapt and expand the training offering to build up new skills that add value for our clients but also foster the long-term career development of our employees. A recent example of this is the introduction in 2025 of an extensive AI training program for all employees, which focuses on integrating AI into our daily work to increase efficiency for our clients.

The reports

The full Sustainability Statement provides much more information on all of these initiatives and many others through detailed ESG disclosures based on the ESRS. To further ensure transparency and comparability, we will also provide an ESG Highlights Report. It complements the full report with an accessible summary for a broader audience, covering our key initiatives, achievements and performance.
