"It’s not about having the perfect, linear resume - what matters are personality and character."

Why Roland Berger?

With around 3,500 employees, Roland Berger is the perfect balance for me between a small and dynamic company with fast decision-making processes and a large established consulting firm with global opportunities. Hence, I can have an individual impact while enjoying a huge variety of projects in various topics and industries, together with highly motivated and bright colleagues.

What does “Be the Original You” mean to you?

It’s not about having the perfect, linear resume – what matters are personality and character. Everyone is encouraged to bring their own story, both professionally and personally, into their career in strategy consulting. If you are a bright mind with a strong motivation to learn, hard skills and specific knowledge can easily be acquired on the job. Authenticity and individual perspectives are what make a difference in the long run.

What are you most enthusiastic about in your role?

It may sound simple, but what excites me most is the flexibility and variety the role offers – today in the office, tomorrow at the client’s site, the day after in another office, and afterwards in my home office. It’s not a “9 to 5 job” in the same office environment. Instead, it means constantly engaging with different people – often top management – in diverse situations and locations.

If you could instantly master any new skill, what would it be and why?

If I could instantly master a new skill, it would probably be the ability to read people’s minds. M&A projects are usually “game changing” for the companies and stakeholders involved; that’s why everyone has their own (sometimes hidden) agenda and strategy to pursue their interests. As an M&A advisor positioned in the middle of it all, this skill would enhance our effectiveness a lot.

What have you experienced at Roland Berger that university never prepared you for?

Quickly becoming a sought-after expert for a specific topic that you’d never even heard of the day before :-)

What’s the most unexpected place your work at Roland Berger has taken you?

Some time ago we had a restructuring project in a regional hospital. Our team room was located right next to the rescue helicopter landing pad, and after experiencing 50+ takeoffs and landings during 3 months onsite, the pilot invited us into the helicopter and showed us all the equipment, from sitting in the cockpit to experiencing the “flying emergency room” in the back.
