"For me, 'Be the Original You' means having the freedom and support to find, shape, and follow your own individual career path within Roland Berger. "
Why Roland Berger?
I chose Roland Berger because it allows me to work at the interface between business and the public sector right from the start, with a potential for real impact that I can hardly imagine in any other job at this early stage of my career. On top of that, I met many smart and motivated people during the application and decision process whose values and perspectives on the world resonated strongly with me. Finally, Roland Berger’s office system offered me a great and smooth opportunity to move to Vienna as my new adopted home, which made the overall decision feel like the perfect fit - both professionally and personally.
What does “Be the Original You“ mean to you?
For me, it means having the freedom and support to find, shape, and follow your own individual career path within Roland Berger. The firm is, in my view, the ideal size to do so: It is not too small, offering exposure to projects across almost all industries, functions, and regions of the world – but also not so large that everything gets lost in bureaucracy – while keeping communication very personal and enabling a strong sense of community. Most importantly, there are still plenty of opportunities to grow - the company, but also especially yourself, growing with and within Roland Berger, developing into your true “original you.”
What has been the most valuable lesson you’ve learned since joining Roland Berger?
How much even a few years at Roland Berger can change your way of thinking. I realized this particularly during my PhD leave, when I stepped outside the Roland Berger environment and applied the goal-oriented mindset, dynamism, structure, and efficiency I had learned in a completely different context. It made me understand how powerful these skills are in helping you reach your goals beyond consulting.
What advice would you give to someone considering joining Roland Berger?
Be aware of what you are signing up for - it is a challenge for sure, but it comes with incredible rewards: diverse and dynamic project experiences, new friends and networks across countries, and most importantly a steep learning curve in terms of personal and professional development.
What’s the most unexpected place your work at Roland Berger has taken you?
I had the opportunity to support a multi-billion infrastructure project in Rabat, Morocco. It was an extremely insightful experience - especially from a cultural perspective, as I learned how differently clients can communicate and act, and how we as consultants need and are able to adapt to that.
What’s the most memorable team event or social activity you’ve attended at Roland Berger?
I honestly can’t decide. In just a few years, you experience so many great events: big organized summer weekends in Southern Europe, very idyllic Christmas parties in the Austrian mountains surrounded by white trees, and the smaller but very friendly events with the great Vienna team. Each of them has its own charm.
