Innovation and growth in healthcare

Dr. Joachim Kartte

2005

Over the past few years, public discussion on the healthcare sector has been dominated by cost cutting and financing issues. But people tend to forget that healthcare is the largest sector of our economy. So companies on the lookout for growth opportunities in Germany should focus on innovation and growth in this sector. Health could become the driver of the next "Kondratieff cycle". Such cycles are kicked off by major innovations that give the economy a significant boost. Thus, the steam engine led to industrialization, and information technology ushered in the information age.

The approaching health age will open up new opportunities for innovation and growth

Our current study is designed to help companies exploit growth opportunities and give employment in the healthcare sector a real boost. The study incorporates the wealth of innovative ideas we encounter in our everyday work. We also look at how growth and innovations in this sector can be financed. We had numerous talks and interviews with healthcare experts from the financing organizations, service providers, industry and politics. We thank all those involved for the extremely helpful insights provided. We hope that our suggestions help exploit opportunities in the healthcare growth market even more creatively and successfully.
